Sunday, January 31st, 2010A problem that only occurs in children is a condition what we called Calcaneal apophysitis. The other name of the heel bone is Calcaneal, so therefore this condition is a problem with the heel bone. The apophysis is the growth plate of cartilage at the back of the heel. On the other hand calcaneal apophysitis is a problem with the growth plate at the back of the heel. This problem occurs in children as the growth plate joins back up to the heel bone at the ages 15-16 years. It is considered an overuse injury, like a stress fracture. This condition is very much common in kids who are overweight; who play a lot of sport especially on hard surfaces and kids with tight calf muscles.
